34 Facebook shout outs, lots of SMS, the consistently fabulous blueberry cheesecake, (ful)filling meals all day long, a nap during office hours, booze with my buddies, a 30-things-I-love-about-you card from you-know-who, Ranga's German jokes and a Saturday to look forward to.

Yes, I've turned 30.

It's been a great weekend, and one to remember (I didn't throw up - cue the big applause!)

Facebook in Malay

Facebook is now available in Malay (Bahasa Melayu).



This is a remarkable enhancement for users in Malaysia. As is stands, Facebook claims to have over 600,000 users in Malaysia. I wouldn't be surprised if this number triples very quickly, now that the language barrier has been removed.



Bravo, Facebook!

How many friends do you own?

My Facebook friend counter now stands at 199.



It's broken down as follows:

• Family: 10
• Best Friends Forever: 9
• Trusted Pals: 7
• Colleagues: 53
• Uni mates: 8
• College mates: 23
• Former colleagues: 18
• Secondary school: 34
• Primary school: 1
• Acquaintances: 36

Some questions on my mind as I await the elusive 200th friend:

• What is the average number of friends across all Facebook users?
• Does having more friends imply that I am more sociable?
• Should I start limiting my profile views to my closest friends?
• Has all this mumbojumbo added any value to my life?

I'll dive into answers when I hit the 200 mark.

Facebook demographics

How many users are there on Facebook?

Based on the results from the Facebook Flyers targeting feature, there are over 45 million users. 37% of these users are outside North America (USA & Canada).

Here's a snapshot of an analysis that I just completed. Flyers currently covers targeting for 31 countries, excluding some notable social network havens such as Hong Kong, Philippines (Friendster) and Brazil (Orkut).
